FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS -- UPDATED OCTOBER 2008.

What is Atlanta Progressive News?

Atlanta Progressive News (APN) was launched on November 23, 2005, as Atlanta's trusted source of progressive news and information. While APN had three print issues in 2006 and 2007, APN is currently available only as an online news service.

Our goal is providing news of concern to the working people and working families of Atlanta.

What is progressive news?

Progressive news is news that brings us closer to universal health care, living wages, affordable housing, peace, a healthy environment, and voting systems we can trust.

Is Atlanta Progressive News objective?

We provide news of concern to working families, and therefore, our writing is geared toward a specific audience. Fortunately, our audience--working families--comprises a majority of people in the United States who are largely ignored by corporate media sources.

We believe there is no such thing as objective news. Typically, mainstream media presents itself as objective but is actually skewed towards promoting the corporate agenda of the ultra-wealthy.

APN, on the other hand, does not pretend to be objective. We believe that our news coverage is fair and that our progressive principles are fair. We aim when possible to give voice to all sides, but aim to provide something different than what is already provided by corporate sources.

Is Atlanta Progressive News a corporation or a nonprofit organization?

Atlanta Progressive News, Inc., is Georgia corporation.

Who is on the Board of Directors?

Our Board of Directors includes Matthew Cardinale, Sarah Epting, and Susan Keith.

How do I submit a Commentary for publication?

APN's Views Section is currently on hiatus. APN is presently focusing on news only.

How do I submit a Letter to the Editor for publication?

We are currently not accepting Letters to the Editor for publication. However, you may email Matthew Cardinale, News Editor, at matthew@atlantaprogressivenews.com regarding any APN article.

Does Atlanta Progressive News make candidate endorsements?

Atlanta Progressive News does make candidate endorsements. Specifically, the endorsements are decided by the Board of Directors. Occasionally, APN will list a second choice in the spirit of Ranked-Choice, or Instant Runoff Voting. APN also reserves the right to revise an endorsement statement at any time based on new information which may arise.

Do Atlanta Progressive News candidate endorsements influence news coverage by the APN News Team?

APN candidate endorsements do not influence news coverage by the APN News Team.

Didn't APN used to have homeless vendors?

For several months, APN experimented with a homeless vendor program for the first two issues of the print edition. After completing a training at the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless, homeless people would sell the paper for $1 and keep $.50.
