FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS -- UPDATED APRIL 2007.

What is Atlanta Progressive News?

Atlanta Progressive News (APN) was launched in 2005 as Atlanta's trusted source of progressive news and information, providing both an online news service and a print edition.

Our goal is providing news of concern to the working people and working families of Atlanta.

How can I subscribe?

Yes you can and what a wonderful way to help support indpendent media! Subscriptions are $20 for four issues. You may send us a check or use the PayPal button on our homepage. If you use PayPal, write "subscription" in the notes section. If you're mailing a check, write it out to Atlanta Progressive News, and mail to PO Box 56154, Atlanta, GA, 30343. Either way, we pay the sales tax out of the $20 you send.

Where can I get a free copy of Atlanta Progressive News print edition?

Please visit one of our 13 PRINT LOCATIONS. Presently, APN is distributed at restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, and other venues where we are allowed to leave free copies. In the future, we would like to add wire racks and metal boxes.

What is the relationship between the print edition and the website?

Essentially the print edition is the "Greatest Hits" of what's been on the website for the last three months or so. The website allows us to post breaking stories. The print edition, which currently comes out every three months or so, provides an updated collection of some of our most important stories of the quarter.

What is progressive news?

Progressive news is news that brings us closer to universal health care, living wages, affordable housing, peace, a healthy environment, and voting systems we can trust.

Is Atlanta Progressive News objective?

We provide news of concern to working families, and therefore, our writing is geared toward a specific audience. Fortunately, our audience--working families--is the majority of Americans who are largely ignored by mainstream media sources.

We believe there is no such thing as objective news. Typically, mainstream media presents itself as objective but is actually skewed towards promoting the corporate agenda of the ultra-wealthy.

APN, on the other hand, does not pretend to be objective. We believe that our news coverage is fair and that our progressive principles are fair. We aim when possible to give voice to all sides, but aim to provide something different than what is already provided by mainstream sources.

Is Atlanta Progressive News a corporation or a nonprofit organization?

Didn't APN used to have homeless vendors?

For several months, APN experimented with a homeless vendor program. We decided it was too much to manage at the time, and have changed our distribution model to the present one, where the paper is free and available in over a dozen locations. However, we look forward to finding other meaningful ways to include homeless people in the citizen journalism movement and hope to announce new initiatives to come.
