The Peachtree Center post office in downtown Atlanta is still on a list of nearly three thousand US post office locations considered for closure, but the USPS has postponed any post office closures until at least May 15, 2012.

Paul Hines with Moveon.org has created a petition to save the post office HERE.

"These changes are largely due to an unreasonable requirement instituted by the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, signed by George W. Bush, which required advance funding of retiree health benefits," an email announcing the petition states.

"A bill has been introduced (H.R. 1351) that will relieve some of the most unfair aspects of this legislation and refund to USPS part of its current overpayment of funds," the email states.

The petition also urges opposition to HR 2309, sponsored by US Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), which would force major jobs cuts, pay cuts, and service cuts.
